North London Samaritans have got through the first stage of a submission to the Heritage Lottery Fund to restore the "Tin Tabernacle" in Bowes Park for use as a call centre and community centre.  To succeed in Stage 2 they need to prove that there is sufficient demand from community groups and other organisations who would wish to hire such a hall. The "Tin Tabernacle" is otherwise known as Shaftesbury Hall and is situated in Herbert Road, very close to Bowes Park station.  Originally.......
St Andrew's Church in Southgate has issued an appeal for people to volunteer to help run a winter night shelter. St Andrew's is one of several churches in the borough involved in the Enfield Churches Winter Night Shelter scheme, being run in association with All People All Places.  The scheme started operation earlier this week and St Andrews is providing overnight shelter on Wednesday nights for six weeks starting on 6th January, offering meals and a warm place to sleep to homeless.......
The Enfield Young People’s Project (EYPP) is an innovative programme that works with young people to develop self-esteem and build up the skills they need to resist peer pressure, avoid risky situations and make safe and informed choices. If you are over 18 you can volunteer to support the young people taking part in this rewarding programme. Everyone could do with a hero in their life and Enfield Council is launching a campaign to encourage more residents to volunteer their free time and help make the borough a better place for everyone. A new request has been made for volunteers to help run a church-based winter shelter and a second training event for volunteers has been arranged. The new request comes from the Vicar of All Saints Edmonton, where the shelter would operate on Sunday nights between 2nd January and 13th March 2016.
