The publisher of a successful website celebrating various styles of Modernist architecture in the London suburbs has launched a crowdfunding campaign aimed at raising sufficient funds to publish the information on his website in book form. Among the buildings that the book will cover are the remarkable Piccadilly Line stations in our area, such as Southgate and Arnos Grove.

The video below, released in connection with an exhibition at Bruce Castle Museum, is a beautifully filmed and soberly narrated tour of the architectural and artistic delights to be found within churches in Tottenham, Hornsey, Stamford Hill, Noel Park and Harringay.  The buildings date from the middle ages right through to the 1990s - but the modern buildings contain some astounding items salvaged from demolished buildings. If you travel to Bowes Park station, walk up the stairs from the platform and turn right (towards Bounds Green), the first building you encounter when leaving the station is Shaftesbury Hall, a former chapel now known locally as the "Tin Tabernacle".  It's a rare survivor of a type of metal self-assembly church that sprang up the Victorian era, but is now in a state of disrepair.
