The Spirals of Life final show of ceramic sculptures is now on in Broomfield Park conservatory. Most of the previous sculptures are back, with a few new ones (look out for the Venus baby-trap!). During April the theme for the Spirals of Life exhibition in Broomfield Conservatory is Bamboo and Grass.  "Botanical sculptures" created by Cathy Taylor and June Dawes can be seen nestling among the normal plants in the flower beds. Easter Sunday is the last Sunday in March and therefore the last chance to see this month's Spirals of Life sculptures in Broomfield Conservatory before they give way to the April exhibits. The March exhibits are sculptures of lilies and ferns created by Cathy Taylor and June Dawes. The first month of this year's Artist-in-Residence scheme in Broomfield Conservatory was brought to a close with a very popular drop-in workshop, giving visitors an opportunity to learn how to create ceramic leaves. Cathy Taylor's five-month residency goes by the overall title "Spirals of Life", each month having a different theme, but all within the overall concept of "biological sculptures". Prizes of up to £1000 are being offered to artists living in Enfield or Haringey for an artwork which illustrates what life in the two boroughs might be like if environmental improvements had been made. The competition is being run by Enfield and Haringey Green Parties in conjunction with Collage Arts.  The challenge they are setting is to create art that depicts, embodies, or expresses what it could be like in Enfield and Haringey if one or more of the questions below were to be.......

Broomfield Conservatory's artist in residence for 2016 is Cathy Taylor.  In conjunction with fellow Friend of Broomfield Park June Dawes, she will be exhibiting her botanical sculptures set among the hothouse plants in Broomfield Conservatory.  The exhibition - Spirals of Life -  starts this Sunday (31st January) and continues until the end of June.  Between now and then visitors will see a varying display of sculptures on a background of a changing display of flowering.......

The video below, released in connection with an exhibition at Bruce Castle Museum, is a beautifully filmed and soberly narrated tour of the architectural and artistic delights to be found within churches in Tottenham, Hornsey, Stamford Hill, Noel Park and Harringay.  The buildings date from the middle ages right through to the 1990s - but the modern buildings contain some astounding items salvaged from demolished buildings. Well worth spending half an hour watching (I could have done.......

Last year over 600 people visited All Saints, Edmonton, for a glorious week of poetry, music, theatre and a wide range of other events. They were there for the Lamb Festival, an arts festival celebrating the lives and legacies of Charles and Mary Lamb, and the success of that first festival left us in no doubt that there should be a second (and hopefully a third, a fourth, a…). The Lamb Festival 2015 will be held from Saturday 6th to Friday 12th June, and once again we’ve got a rich.......

A twelve-week course on painting with oils begins on Tuesday 22nd April in Wood Green, starting at 7.30pm.  The classes, intended for people of all ages, are taught by Mick Yates and will be held at the Burghley Road Children's Centre, London N8 OQG (near Turnpike Lane). A new locally based arts festival is running essay and photographic competitions which will be open only to Enfield residents or students at schools in the borough. Grave of Charles and Mary Lamb in the churchyard of All Saints EdmontonThe week-long Lamb Festival will be held at All Saints Church in Edmonton starting on 31st May. It will celebrate two of Edmonton's most famous residents - the 18th Century essayist and poet Charles Lamb and his sister Mary, who was also a writer and collaborated.......

An art exhibition opening later this month at the Dugdale Centre is not entitled Watch Out! for nothing. It will comprise some 20+ paintings by Moshe Galili, a Palmers Green resident and Holocaust survivor, who fears that a neo-Nazi movement currently developing in his native Hungary and elsewhere in the former Soviet bloc could revive some of the horrors that he himself lived through as a young man. A ceramics class at the Millfields Arts Centre, designed for people with varying levels of experience in working with clay, will run from 6th January to 31st March (no class on 17th February).  The class is taught by Deborah Broomfield, who can be contacted at .
