Enfield Council has launched a consultation on its proposals for two Private Rented Property Licensing Schemes. The consultation, which runs until 29th November, is open to all residents, tenants, landlords, agents, businesses and any interested parties in Enfield and outside of the borough.

More than two thousand Enfield residents have signed a new petition calling on Enfield Council to abandon its plans to reduce the frequency with which 'wheelie bins' are emptied from once a week to once a fortnight. This follows the council's refusal to accept an earlier version of the petition, supported by more than 6000 people, because signatories' addresses were not included.

In the last few days both the Mayor of London and Enfield Council have published new strategy documents relating to tackling problems with the availability and affordability of housing within their respective geographical areas of responsibility. The Mayor has published a 'blueprint report' which sets out his vision for reforming London's private rented sector. Enfield Council is bundling together two draft strategies for consultation under the overall titleThe right home for everyone - a draft Strategy for Preventing Homelessness and Rough Sleeping and a draft Strategy for Housing and Growth.

Enfield Council is to join a growing list of local authorities across the UK which have made formal declarations of a Climate Emergency. The declaration, set to be endorsed by the full council on 10th July, commits the council to becoming carbon-neutral by 2030, to stop investing in fossil fuel companies, and to maximise use of environmentally friendly products.

A survey of cancer awareness will inform the council about how aware Enfield's residents are of potential cancer symptoms. This will then help the council to inform residents in a better way about the symptoms to look out for and how to reduce the risk of cancer.

A motion calling on Enfield Council to take steps to help tackle the global climate emergency is on the agenda for tonight's meeting of the full council. If approved tonight, the motion tabled by Councillor Vicki Pite will add Enfield's name to those of a growing list of councils which have passed climate emergency motions in response to the dire warnings contained in a recent report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
