Horses are rarely seen now on the roads in Southgate but were once a common sight. Cars have now replaced carts and carriages. Petrol stations have replaced drinking troughs. There are presently nine remaining drinking troughs located in Enfield and these have all been planted out. Selborne Bowling Club took the community initiative to plant out this trough to brighten up this part of The Green opposite their club.

The latest addition to the PGC Community Directory is a hockey club in Southgate which offers free weekly training sessions to members and non-members alike and is on the lookout for more members. Southgate Adelaide is a men's club, but shares its facilities with a ladies' club,  Hendon and Mill Hill Hockey Club It runs three/four teams playing on the astroturf pitch at Ashmole Academy (Southgate, N14 5RJ) and does its socialising just down the road at the Walker Ground Clubhouse.......

A local Karate school that was set up more than forty years ago starts a new beginners course on Tuesday 26th April. A new multi-use games area will be installed at an Palmers Green park after the council successfully bid for £45,000 from the London Marathon Charitable Trust. The improvements to Hazelwood Recreation Ground off Hedge Lane, will significantly improve the current five a side grass football pitch and tarmac basketball area, be free to use all year round and will tackle problems with waterlogging on the football pitch in the winter. Winchmore Hill Bowls Club has been in existence since 1932. The Bowls Club has a lively membership to suit both competitive and social bowlers. We compete in the Middlesex County League and play club matches against all the other bowls club in the local area, as well as internal competitions and friendly fixtures, in addition to our club roll ups every Wednesday and Friday evening, as well as Saturday and Sunday mornings.
