Safer Local Community - Making provisions for our youth

St John's Church, Green Lanes, N13 4DB

We have recently experienced a real increase in violence in our local community which has left some scared to go to the local park and even down the high street. There have been attacks at knife point, robberies and muggings.

St John's Church invites the local community to get together to discuss a vision for our community to tackle the increase in crime levels we have recently seen. This is not about creating vigilantes against gang crime or the youth. There is less money going into youth centres, etc. therefore, this will also be an opportunity to discuss how we can use one of St John's Church halls to create a resource centre for the youth to come into for the first two hours when school has ended or to form a male mentoring circle to reach young men between the age of 18 and 24 (the highest-risk range for victims of youth violence), etc.

People can play a vital part in keeping their community safe and vibrant. To do this a sustainable vision needs to be established which can seem difficult when we are in what some have called "a perfect storm" with regards to the increase in knife crimes and violence within London. You are all important members of the community and St John's would like to invite you to attend a meeting on Friday 17th May at 7.30pm in St John the Evangelist Church to find a way forward in Palmers Green.
