Friday 25 September 8.00pm - 11.00pm

SOLD OUT: St Harmonica's: Spikedrivers + Fran McGillivray & Mike Burke present 'Saints & Sinners'

The Southgate Club, 17 Chase Side, N14 5BP (Entrance is in Crown Lane)

As you may know, we ran a very successful event at St Harmonica’s in August with the Cinelli Brothers, confirming that we can run events safely and within current guidelines for an audience of seventy. Our model has had to change to one of advance ticket sales where contact details can be taken and the audience seated throughout with table service. Feedback suggests everyone felt the evening was safe, and our risk assessments are Public Health Enfield approved. We're hoping that there won’t be any re-imposition of restrictions on indoor performances so please see below for details of our early autumn programme.
Links for buying tickets will go out six days before each Friday’s show, but we are including the link for our opening night of 25th September below.

And what a fantastic way to officially reopen Friday night Blues from St Harmonica’s at the Southgate Club. A top quality show from perhaps the finest blues and roots musicians in the country; wonderful, top drawer musicianship and stunning five part harmonies.

Blues and gospel, despite their obvious differences, have always been linked, perhaps different branches from the same tree; one developing on Saturday night the other on Sunday morning. So many blues musicians we know and love spent their early years singing in church. We would never have had the presence, power and passion of Son House, Muddy Waters or Ma Rainy,“mother of the blues”, without these foundations. And of course, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, "the original soul sister" and "the godmother of rock and roll”, who throughout her career could handle both sides with flair, influencing music far beyond gospel and blues.

Inspired by all these rich influences, Ben Tyzack, Constance Redgrave & Maurice McElroy from the Spikedrivers with Fran McGillivray and Mike Burke present Saints & Sinners, exploring the space and harmony between spiritual music and ‘the devil’s blues’.

Five voices, a multitude of guitars, unusual percussion & even some homemade instruments create a world of soul, stories and soundscapes; a foot-stomping, gut-wrenching, heart-soaring journey from the cross to the crossroads….and all points in-between.

This is a special night incorporating the launch of their CD Saints & Sinners Going Over Home
