St Harmonica's Blues Club: Serious Blues + Big Alan Craig
St Monica's Parish Centre, Cannon House, 6 Cannon Hill, N14 7HG
Do you realise that this Friday will be the last evening at the current Blues Club venue of Cannon House for a full band evening? Next week is our last Friday before we move to our new home at the Southgate Club and that is a the Christmas Blues Jam.
So it is just as well that we are ending with a very fine band of serious blues musicians who, together, go by the name of Serious Blues. This is the band that first gave us the talents of Frankie Connolly to marvel at and, while Frankie now does his own thing, this Friday’s line up is absolutely first class. Andy Hodge is the bass players’ bassist, a lovely player and terrific vocalist. It doesn’t get much better than Sam Kelly sitting behind the drum kit and with Paul Jobson on keyboards and vocals this completes a top drawer line up of blues royalty.
Half time comes in the shape of Big Alan Craig accompanied by his loon, Lyndsay. A great evening in prospect.
If you are bored on Saturday night, 15th December, then the Low Down Dogs, together with Chrissie Thomas are performing at the Antwerp Arms in Church Road, Tottenham N17 8AS from 8.00pm. The Antwerp is a great pub tucked away behind Bruce Castle Park, saved from the developers for the community by volunteers and providing a lovely atmosphere complete with real ales from Tottenham’s Redemption brewery.
On Monday 17th December the Leytonstone Blues Jam hold their Christmas party with House Red, the St Harmonica’s House Band as the guest artists. Possibly London’s friendliest jam, the Leytonstone Blues Jam starts at 8.30pm at the Leytonstone Ex-Sevicemens Club, 2 Harvey Road, Leytonstone E11 3DB http://www.leytonstonebluesjam.co.uk Admission is just £1.00 for jammers and £2.00 to be part of the audience.
