St Harmonica's Blues Club: Head Hunters Blues Band + Dave Rich

The Southgate Club, 17 Chase Side, N14 5BP (Entrance is in Crown Lane)

202001 head hunters

We’re excited about this one. The Head Hunters Blues Band were formed in late 2015 and have quickly become one of the most notorious blues bands on the North West club scene with a no compromise attitude to playing "nothin' but killer blues" building a reputation across their home town of Liverpool and the region.

David Fishel, Jazz MC and Mersey Radio presenter, said: "The Head Hunters are not only the best blues band in Liverpool, they're the best in the country, it won't take too long for the rest of the country to figure that out”.

They have played to sell out audiences across the country, last year it was standing room only at the Tring Blues Club, and this year are on their UK and European tour of which St Harmonica’s Blues Club is a part. Their debut album, 'Back From The Delta’ is an album of songs from old and some almost forgotten delta blues artists, reworked to an electric, Chicago sound, was released with critical acclaim; Blues In Britain Magazine said: "This is a brilliant album, they have created a very special feel to the blues they play, you need to catch them live".

Well you can catch them live this Friday. It’s always great to promote the new generation of top blues bands in the same vein as the Blues Chapter, Cinelli Brothers and Frankie Connolly.

The only thing I’d suggest is that you get to the club early, not just for a seat but we’d hate to have to put the ‘House Full’ sign outside.

Half time this Friday comes in the form of the irrepressible Dave Rich performing his solo material.

St Harmonica's at the Southgate Club

St Harmonica's will be at the Southgate Club on Fridays - apart from the first Friday of the month. Instead of the first Friday of the month, St Harmonica's will be at the Southgate Club on the Sunday after the first Friday (which in some months will be the second Sunday of the month).

Purchase an annual membership card for just £5 (cheapest membership anywhere?) and thereafter admission is free on Friday blues nights and Sunday blues jams. As we’ve always done, we will take ‘the hat’ around for donations, which is how the bands get paid. The Southgate Club will take the bar takings, which is how they are able to give us the venue at no cost.

So you know where your membership fee goes, we’ve had to buy some new PA equipment this year and get a mixer repaired, which cost us over £1k, and we need a reserve to top up the bands’ fees when the evening’s hat doesn’t quite make it.

Doors open at 8.00pm, the entrance is at the back in Crown Lane, and 2019 membership cards will be available on the door. Parking is fine after 6.30 in local streets and there is always 3 hour free parking in the Asda car park, public transport is a doddle!
