Friday 12 July 2019 8.30pm - 11.30pm

St Harmonica's Blues Club: The Mark Harrison Band + Laine Hines

The Southgate Club, 17 Chase Side, N14 5BP (Entrance is in Crown Lane)

201907 mark harrison

We are looking forward to this! It’s always a delight to host Mark Harrison and his band at St Harmonica’s. Mark is one of the best exponents of original Roots & Blues in the UK, nominated for many awards over the years, those of you who have seen him before will know what we mean; this will be first time for Mark at our Southgate Club venue

There is no one in music quite like Mark Harrison. With his band, or in solo or duo form, he is widely considered one of the most original and interesting artists currently operating in the UK. He has recently appeared on BBC Radio 2, as guest on Cerys Matthews’s show and on Anneka Rice’s Pick Of The Week show. Mark’s unique songs are attracting a lot of attention and he has established a growing reputation for the individuality of his music. He takes elements of blues and folk, adding his own twist to produce something totally original. His music, with its memorable tunes and strong and compelling rhythms, has been going down very well with audiences of all kinds and ages. He plays with some of the best musicians on the circuit.

A couple of reviews from those who know are shown below:

‘really excellent _ he takes very real things, normal things that happen in life, and writes about them in a way that makes you think afresh about them’ (Paul Jones, BBC Radio 2)

‘One of the British Isles’ great blues singers and guitarists….totally and absolutely original’ (Mike Harding)

You’re advised to arrive early for this performance to fully enjoy Mark’s music, banter and wit.  Check his website if you don’t believe us

And you’ll love the half-time support, the remarkable Laine Hines makes for an evening of the best in acoustic roots music in the UK. Arrive early to get good seats.

St Harmonica's at the Southgate Club

St Harmonica's will be at the Southgate Club on Fridays - apart from the first Friday of the month. Instead of the first Friday of the month, St Harmonica's will be at the Southgate Club on the Sunday after the first Friday (which in some months will be the second Sunday of the month).

Purchase an annual membership card for just £5 (cheapest membership anywhere?) and thereafter admission is free on Friday blues nights and Sunday blues jams. As we’ve always done, we will take ‘the hat’ around for donations, which is how the bands get paid. The Southgate Club will take the bar takings, which is how they are able to give us the venue at no cost.

So you know where your membership fee goes, we’ve had to buy some new PA equipment this year and get a mixer repaired, which cost us over £1k, and we need a reserve to top up the bands’ fees when the evening’s hat doesn’t quite make it.

Doors open at 8.00pm, the entrance is at the back in Crown Lane, and 2019 membership cards will be available on the door. Parking is fine after 6.30 in local streets and there is always 3 hour free parking in the Asda car park, public transport is a doddle!
