As the consultation on the Green Lanes cycle lanes closes it might be worth mentioning that if that initiative doesn’t go ahead nor will Quieter Neighbourhoods for the Lakes Estate. Both depend on the £30m grant from the GLA and Andy Gilligan has gone on record saying that if the people of Enfield don’t want the scheme the money will be sent elsewhere. My guess is there’s quite a slew of people on the Lakes Estate who are neutral or anti the Green Lanes development in its present form but very pro Quieter Neighbourhoods.

We have a once a lifetime opportunity to get the funds to make the Lakes Estate a more pleasant place to live – I suggest that if David Burrows referendum goes ahead people will need to think carefully how they vote!

Sky Woods and Jessie Thomas bring music to a Lakes Estate Big Lunch afternoon. Previous year’s performers, sponsored by locals Bennet and Walden Estate Agents and Baskervilles Tea Shop, both quickly went into the Apple download Top 10 with their subsequent EP releases. Will this year’s sponsors, Meadway Garages with their two very local sites near the Cherry Tree and The Meadway / High Street junction www.meadway-garages.com , be as successful with their investment? Perhaps Sky will advise once he’s back from performing at Glastonbury.

More importantly, a good time was had by all once the rain cleared for the street party. This has proved so successful in assisting neighbour meet neighbour and allowing children to go out and meet new play friends from the street in previous years. It is amazing what a different use of the public roadspace can lead to.
